The cartoon shows Lula asking if ‘honoris causa’ has something to do with the ‘samba’ school (because of the outfit)
“Greatness does not consist in receiving honors, but in deserving them.” said Aristotle.
I thought about the ‘honoris causae’ Lula received, even without fulfilling the requirements for which they should be granted. The reasons have been quite others: political, economic, financial and more … NOTHING to do with the substance and consistency of the title itself.
These ‘concessions‘ by universities – some renowned during centuries , demonstrate how they bow to interests others than to their goals. And this subserviency – culture to the money (or its probability) – denigrates what was once surrounded by value and respect… trivializes what was previously an honor.
